One Good Turn

Using Less Power for An Everyday Activity

I have a shower ritual. I turn on the lights, turn on the ceiling fan, and start the water. I’ve never really thought that much about it, but today I tried something different: Instead of turning on the lights and fan, I just opened the window.

The window let in enough light for me to operate, and provided ventilation as well. I know it’s not a huge energy savings, but the whole idea here is doing small things (rather than ignoring them).

Of course, when it’s dark I’ll still need the lights, and when it’s cold outside I’ll need the fan. But at least now I’ll think about it.
